Climate
Tasmania has a temperate maritime climate...much to many Australian's amazement, Hobart is actually the second driest capital city in Australia. Here is a break down of our four climates and what exactly that means for your Tasmanian Travel Experience.
Summer – Summers average daily temperature is 21 degrees Celsius. Expect mild, warm days with afternoon sea breezes in may areas. Summer is a great time to experience Tasmania’s beautiful beaches and numerous waterways.
Autumn – Autumn in Tasmania is a beautiful time of the year, you will experience calm, sunny days. The beautiful, elegant trees are ablaze with colour.
Winter – We do experience a dusting of snow on the cities backdrop – Mount Wellington in winter. Days are cool and crisp, but normally clear and blue. The air is the freshest in the world and winter is a great time to experience it.
Spring – Spring can still be cool, but the gardens are abloom with bulbs and many are open to visitors. Truly a spectacular time to visit.
Rainfall in Tasmania varies. The West Coast experiences a lot of rain (an annual average of 2400mm) this keeps the beautiful rainforests of the regions thriving. Hobart receives an average rainfall of 626mm (24 inches).
We are also very lucky in Tasmania, as we receive more daylight than any other city in Australia. The summer sees us receiving two and a half hours more daylight than Darwin and an hour more than Sydney.
